Due to its great absorption capacity, activated charcoal has been used in a traditional way to treat gas problems, such as detoxification by intoxications, elimination of toxins, etc.
Activation process:
Activated vegetable charcoal, obtained from the coconut shell, is usually subjected to a special preparation after its carbonization, thus increasing its porosity giving it a great power of absorption.
Activation is the process of slow oxidation of the resulting carbon by means of which millions of microscopic pores are formed on the surface of the carbon in order to attract the molecules of different substances. This process is done by a type of physical activation with water vapor.
Therefore, activated charcoal has the capacity to adsorb, retain and release oxygen on its surface, favouring an improvement in the efficiency of the elimination of toxins in our organism.
The digestive system tolerates very well the intake of activated charcoal, where it adsorbs or fixes everything that is not desirable for the body (food additives, pesticide residues, chemical fertilizers, toxic bacteria from fish and other foods).
It is also used to neutralize gases, flatulence along with the discomfort they cause in the body and in the digestive process.
Properties:
Its action on gases (flatulence) is due to a double process: the absorption of the gases themselves, as well as the bacteria that produce them.
Some of the functional problems of the digestive system, whose origin is often due to bad eating habits (excess sugar, alcohol, fats, fried foods, etc.), can be treated with activated charcoal. These include abdominal pain, cramps, burning, gas, belching, bloated belly, etc. By reducing intestinal gas, activated vegetable charcoal helps to reduce abdominal swelling.
Another of the properties of activated charcoal is to prevent bad breath due to very strong intestinal fermentation.
Due to the absorption capacity of harmful substances from charcoal, it has been used to reduce the effect of poisons ingested orally.
There are no known side effects of actived charcoal because it does not act directly on the body. It may be able to inhibit the action of some oral medications so it should be taken into account.
Activated charcoal is not digested. It remains in the gastrointestinal tract and is eliminated by defecating along with adsorbed toxins.
Uses:
- To detoxify the body, take with plenty of water to avoid constipation and intestinal obstruction, fasting.
- For its effect on gases it is usually taken after meals.
- It is preferable not to take it with coffee, alcohol and tea, as it may inhibit their properties.
